CFDA, Fashion Fund nominees unveiled

When I read news of ELLE, I have gotten the news that the CFDA has unveiled its list of ten nominees for the 2010 Fashion Fund prize.

CFDA is the abbreviation of Council of Fashion Designers of America. CFDA is always considered as the Oscar of fashion world. The nominees chosen by the by the CFDA for their much coveted annual prize are a good indicator of which names we should all be keeping our eye on

The CFDA also offer fund for the winner, which is $200,000.The fund has previously been taken home by some well-known designers, such as Proenza Schouler, Alexander Wang and Sophie Theallet. Although it doesn’t guarantee international fashion success, it sure does help. So who’s on the list this year?

Some names on the list is familiar with us. Joseph Altuzarra and Prabal Gurung have both been making serious waves over the past few seasons. Pamela Love’s jewellery has achieved cult status within the fashion crowd and Eddie Borgo is fast following suit.

Also there are some unknown choices- at least this side of the Atlantic. Let’s list them. Christian Cota, Mexican designer is wowed with his cubism-inspired a/w 2010 collection. Gregory Parkinson is best known for the way that he mixes multiple prints and patterns into one piece. Robert Geller, menswear designer, is already won the fund back in 2004 with his then label. And other designers like Cloak, Oliver Helden , Paul Marlow and Billy Reid, the duo behind Loden Dager, a colourful and cool menswear line; sunglasses designer Moss Lipow and luxe men’s designer.

The finalists still have a mountain to climb. These designers still have to wait for a few more time before they find out whether they’ve won. According to WWD, the CFDA committee will be quizzing each one on their most recent collections and visiting their studios, and each designer will contribute to a project funded by Ann Taylor. The winner and runners-up will be announced on 15 November.

Let us wait and see.
